Get set for a thrilling day, where you will have the opportunity to swim with whale sharks, the biggest fish in the world. This type of shark migrates to Mexico, passing in front of Contoy Island, the only guaranteed place in the world where you can see them. Government regulation and required documentation to get married in Mexico (legal civil ceremony):

• A minimum of four business days is needed from date of arrival in the country to complete all required paperwork and tests prior to ceremony
• Civil ceremonies are not performed on Sundays

• Couples 17 years of age and under require parental approval.
• Completed marriage application (provided at hotel)
• Valid passports
• Tourist information card (provided upon entry to Mexico)
• Certified copy of birth certificates (original, Apostilled and must be translated into Spanish)

If the test is positive, the wedding ceremony cannot be performed.
• Widowed individuals must provide a certified copy of the former spouses death certificate.
• Names on passport and birth certificate must match. If names do not match due to divorce or death, then the name on the certified copy of the birth certificate should be the name used on the tourist card upon entering Mexico. This name will also be used as the maiden name on the wedding application.
• Birth certificates, name change, adoption, divorce decree, and death certificate all require an Apostille seal attached for use in Mexico. The Apostille seal is the official seal of the Secretary of State from the state where the document was originally issued to certify its use in a country. This is not the same as a notary public stamp. The process of obtaining an Apostille is done via mail. Call your Secretary of States Notary Public to find out the mailing address and forward your documents to them with a small fee (if applicable) for processing. Once complete, the original documents will be returned to you with the seal. You do not have to do anything in person. You should plan additional time to complete this process prior to travel.

The following wedding package is available for purchase by guests staying at The Royal Cancun in Cancun

The Romance Wedding package includes:

• Professional services of an onsite wedding specialist
• Complimentary upgrade to suite (to the next level of suite category, subject to availability upon arrival)
• Special decoration of the couple’s suite with rose petals
• Sound system for the ceremony (bring your favorite music on CDs, iPod, or MP3 player)
• Bride’s bouquet and groom’s boutonniere
• Decorated oceanfront gazebo or beach location
• Witnesses if required
• Champagne toast after the ceremony
• Real Resorts Signature Royal wedding cake
• 1 bottle of sparkling wine and a fruit basket in room the night of the wedding
• Honeymoon breakfast in bed the morning after the ceremony
• Late checkout for the couple up to 6pm (based upon availability

Hotel restrictions and qualification:

• Wedding packages are only available to guests staying at The Royal Cancun during the dates of their stay
• The Royal Cancun is an adult’s only (16+) property. Children are only allowed to arrive 30 minutes prior to the ceremony.
• Real Resorts requires couples to be in the destination for 4 full business days prior to the ceremony date. Arrival day does notcount as a business day.
• A $300 penalty will be charged for weddings cancelled within 45 days of the confirmed wedding date
• Wedding package becomes nonrefundable if cancelled 10 days prior to arrival
• A romance travel specialist will work with you to confirm the date, time and location of your wedding in coordination with the hotel property after your reservation is confirmed with deposit or final payment. For more information please contact a romance travel specialist for assistance.

Other information:

• Only ceremonies performed by a Justice of the Peace are legally binding and couples must fulfill the required government documentation prior to the wedding date. Please verify all requirements with the wedding coordinator of the hotel.

• Wedding ceremonies performed by a Minister are not legally binding and it is the couple’s responsibility to get married legally in their home country pre/post travel.
